09/21/2026 – SpaceX’s massive Starbase Louisiana development at Pecan Island is beginning to show clearer signs of movement toward the construction phase. New recruiting activity tied specifically to Starship infrastructure in Louisiana indicates that SpaceX is assembling the internal construction and engineering organization that will help deliver the project.
SpaceX is recruiting for a Senior Construction Project Manager position supporting Starship infrastructure in Louisiana. The company is also recruiting a Civil Engineer focused on land development for the Louisiana project. Responsibilities associated with the civil engineering role include site feasibility, grading, drainage, stormwater systems, water distribution, underground utilities, erosion control and coordination of local, state and federal permitting.
One particularly important detail for the construction industry is the anticipated relocation timeline. The civil engineering position calls for initial work at Starbase in Texas followed by relocation to Louisiana in early 2027. That provides an early indication of when SpaceX expects its Louisiana infrastructure organization to begin establishing a stronger presence near the project.
More Than 34,000 Construction Jobs Projected at Peak
Louisiana Economic Development estimates that approximately 34,516 construction jobs could be supported during peak construction of Starbase Louisiana.
The planned development extends far beyond launch pads. Anticipated infrastructure includes launch facilities, cryogenic processing and propellant systems, power generation and transmission, roads, bridges, marine infrastructure, industrial buildings, utilities and coastal protection work.
For the skilled trades, a development of this scale could eventually create substantial demand for pipefitters, welders, boilermakers, millwrights, electricians, instrumentation technicians, ironworkers, scaffold builders, insulators, riggers, crane operators, heavy-equipment operators, QA/QC personnel and construction supervision.
Major EPC and Construction Awards Still Being Watched
Despite the increasing construction activity, the major engineering, procurement and construction contractors responsible for Starbase Louisiana have not yet been publicly confirmed.
That makes the next phase particularly important.
Næxon is monitoring contractor awards involving heavy civil construction, mechanical and piping systems, electrical and instrumentation, structural steel, scaffolding, insulation, crane and heavy-lift services, marine construction, utilities, power infrastructure and specialty industrial construction.
A previously reported multibillion-dollar procurement associated with methane and propellant-production infrastructure also remains an important package to watch. Until the selected contractor is publicly verified, Næxon will not identify a company as the awarded EPC contractor.
Coastal and Civil Work Could Move First
Early physical construction may begin with coastal protection and heavy civil infrastructure.
Development of the Pecan Island property will require substantial preparation before the primary launch and industrial facilities can be constructed. Highway access, bridges, construction traffic, drainage, shoreline protection, utilities and other supporting infrastructure are therefore becoming important areas to monitor.
These packages could provide some of the earliest opportunities for Louisiana civil contractors, equipment operators, pile-driving crews, concrete workers, surveyors, environmental contractors and heavy-construction companies.

The most important development will be the identification of the companies actually building Starbase Louisiana.
Once major EPC, general construction and specialty contracts begin appearing, attention will shift rapidly toward subcontractor awards and workforce mobilization.
For skilled tradespeople across the Gulf Coast, the progression from project announcement to engineering recruitment and construction management hiring is an important signal. Starbase Louisiana is moving closer to the stage where contractors, subcontractors and ultimately large craft workforces will be required on the ground.
